Valerie Bailey Takes the Helm of the Jamaica Organization of New Jersey
On January 12, 2025, Valerie Bailey, Esq. officially assumed the role of president of the Jamaica Organization of New Jersey (JON-J), a prominent philanthropic organization dedicated to serving the Jamaican community in New Jersey. Bailey’s appointment marks a significant transition as she takes over from Owen Eccles, who led the organization for the past two years with dedication and vision.
A New Leadership Team
Bailey was installed during a heartfelt ceremony at the Installation Church Service held at Rehoboth Pentecostal Church in Trenton, NJ. The event was not only a celebration of her presidency but also an introduction to the new slate of executive officers who will work alongside her. The team includes vice-presidents Jazz Clayton-Hunt and Sharon Lewars, recording secretary Janet Ximines, treasurer Donovan Cameron, and public relations officer Claudia Nelson Woodard. The State Board also features esteemed members such as Lynval James, president emeritus, and Samual Cherrington, vice-president emeritus, along with trustees Owen Eccles, Jacqueline Lewis, Patrick Reid, and Stephanie Robertson.
Mission and Vision of JON-J
The Jamaica Organization of New Jersey has a clear mission: to empower Jamaicans and their descendants to maintain their cultural identity within the diverse communities of New Jersey. “My goal is to provide thoughtful leadership that strengthens our foundation,” Bailey articulated. She highlighted the importance of fortifying the organization’s infrastructure, enhancing technological and communication systems, and refining governing documents to ensure agility and adaptability. Her plans also include streamlining processes to expand JON-J’s presence both in New Jersey and Jamaica.

Bailey expressed her pride in serving the Jamaican community and collaborating with a talented group of individuals. “All our new and returning executive board members are dynamic and bring fresh ideas and perspectives to the table,” she noted.
